Ti Saddhya Kay Karte - 2017
First love, what comes to your mind when I say this?
Maybe the first ever crush you had in your school, or maybe a childhood relationship that was special to you, or perhaps a friend, who was your everything back then, and as you grew up, you lost touch with them.
This film is about one such lost friendship, between Anurag and Tanvi, who happened to be neighbours when they were young. They shared a deep friendship with each other but as they grew up, life happened and they faded somewhere into the busy world. Years later, in a school reunion party, Anurag gets to know about Tanvi from one of his friends, and the rekindling of an old bond begins.
Ti Saddhya Kay Karte always brings this huge smile on my face whenever I watch it. It also brings tears in my eyes because it's overwhelming how beautifully this film is made. I was in school when this film released, I had watched it with my family in the theatre. I remember writing an essay about it in school, that was how much I had loved it even back then. Although I understand it's depth better now.
This film runs in three timelines - childhood, teenage and adulthood. We see Anurag and Tanvi's characters evolve right from school, to college, to the age where they are settled in their respective families and careers.
Firstly let's talk about the title of this movie, the simplicity with which it is formed and yet, has a catchy vibe that will grab people's attention. It aptly represents what the film is going to talk about. For all the people who don't understand Marathi, the title "ती सध्या काय करते" basically translates to - what is she doing these days? A question we ask while talking about friends that we aren't in touch with anymore.
Talking about the songs, the songs from the movie also range from three timelines. Starting with the innocent world of "हृदयात वाजे something" followed by the explorations and excitement of college life with "परिकथेच्या पर्या", to the acceptance of falling in love with "जरा जरा" and finally, my personal favourite from the album which feels like a heartfelt cry....when you have left something precious behind in life because of which, you always seem to have a missing factor ahead - "कितीदा नव्याने"❤️
The dialogues in the movie are so simple and hence feel so natural, they give you those familiar Marathi household vibes. Satish Rajwade's films always have this one speciality and that is - to make the characters seem like our own family. To make them so relatable, and so realistic, that we'll feel a sense of personal bonding with the characters and their lives. We can instantly connect with them, right from the first scene.
The film shifts between flashbacks and present time, narrating us the story of Anurag and Tanvi's friendship, unfolding to us what happened between them and why did they lose touch inspite of being such amazing friends back in the day.
I have said this in one of my posts before, that some writers feel emotions can only be stirred up by heavy dialogues. But most of the times, the simplest of dialogues, the most light hearted ones, make us feel something so deeply, something that melodramatic lines would never achieve. This movie proves it once again.
There are many such lines throughout the film but one of them is in the last scene where Anurag and Tanvi finally pour their hearts out to each other, and when Anurag says "मनाच्या एका कोपऱ्यात आज ही तुझी आठवण असते" or when Tanvi says "सगळं छान चाललंय पण तरीही कुठेतरी काहीतरी राहून गेल्या सारखं वाटतं".... these dialogues always make me feel heavy because of the way they are delivered. Don't we all have friends who we are not in touch with anymore? Don't we all recollect those good moments sometimes and think about what should we have done differently?
(The reason I didn't translate those lines into English is because they will lose their essence if I do it, they won't sound as good as they sound in Marathi.)
Thankyou for reading :)
