Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
Everyone has atleast one film in their lives which they can watch a million times and still not get tired. For me, one of those films is 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara'!
This film is based on three friends, Arjun, Kabir and Imran. They made a pact in college, that each one of them will choose one adventure sport of their choice and the other two will have to do it. It's Kabir's bachelorette trip and what all takes place throughout the trip, is totally worth watching 😗
As the title suggests, this film sends out an idea that we only have one life, we can't waste it doing something that we don't love, or not doing something that we love. We have to give it justice, beat our fears, embrace our pasts, confront our insecurities, try new things & experiences, meet new people, and do all that excites us and makes our heart happy!
What I love the most about this movie is the energy that it creates, the enthusiasm that this movie carries. Everytime I watch it, I feel refreshed and full of excitement! I can play it all over again right after it ends, that's how much I love it!
We can all relate to the three characters, we all have been there some or the other time. Be it Arjun who is a work-o-holic but during the trip, realises that there's so much more to life than materialism/
be it Kabir who doesn't love Natasha but is still going ahead with the wedding because - he feels it's too late to change his decision now/
or be it Imran who always jokes around and is rarely serious, but deep inside he too is carrying his own wounds and hurts, that nobody else knows about.
The scene where Laila asks Arjun, "kya tumhe paiso se khushi milti hai?"
Arjun replies "haa mujhe paiso se khushi milti hain".
And then she asks "toh phir tum uss din diving ke baad roye kyu the? Kabhi koi cheque haath me aate wakt roye ho aise?"
This is one of the most beautiful scenes. We don't really understand what happiness is when we have never fully allowed ourselves to experience it. Arjun's journey from being a complete money man to being a person who doesn't pick up work phone calls on vacation and who learns to live in the moment is portrayed so organically on screen!
Laila - "Tumhe kaise pata ki tum 40 tak zinda rahoge?"
Haven't we all planned things for when we grow old? Haven't we all sacrificed something in our present thinking, when I'll be older I'll do it. We really take life for granted, don't we?
Laila's character played by Katrina Kaif was a magical one, I loved her presence on screen the whole time. She brought in a positive and sunshine like vibe to the movie, which made it even more lovable.
The album of this movie is one of the most iconic ones. Also, the poetic verses in Farhan Akhtar's voice in between scenes is one of the best and most effective aspects of the film ; the poems help narrate the film better.
There are so many heart warming scenes in this movie💘
Travel films are always about self realisations, aren't they? I think when you take a break and disconnect with your regular life for a moment, it makes you connect with your inner self and makes you familiar with so many things about yourself that you didn't have any idea about. It makes you realize what you really want, and what you don't really need. That's why I love watching travel movies, they make you think.
By the end of the film, you have laughed a lot, felt heavy, smiled a lot, cried a bit, felt inspired, felt hopeful, and had a lot of fun!
I know people who haven't watched this piece of art yet :) So please. For anyone and everyone who hasn't watched it yet, go and watch it as soon as possible! It's on Netflix.
Thanks for reading :)
